2018 Draft Round 1 Grades

1. Browns - QB Baker Mayfield / A-

Baker was a good pick here. Statistically he was the best choice but he is small. Its not a huge deal but historically small QB's dont work most of the time. The difference between A- and A+ is Sam Darnold.

2. Giants - RB Saquon Barkley / B+

Barkley was the best overall player in the draft. He is one of the best running backs I've seen going into the draft. But I thought the Giants should've drafted a QB. Current QB Eli Manning may have a couple years left and he got benched last year for Geno Smith. GENO SMITH. Whenever you got a old QB who has struggled and gets benched for a terrible QB.. I think it may be time to draft a QB and prepare for the future. ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU HAVE THE #2 OVERALL PICK WITH QB SAM DARNOLD STILL ON THE BOARD!!

3. Jets - QB Sam Darnold / A+

A+ for obvious reasons. I believe Darnold was the best QB in this draft class.

4. Browns - CB Denzel Ward / A-

This was a good pick just not the best they could've done. I thought DE Bradley Chubb was the obvious pick here and I even like DB Minkah Fitzpatrick here as well. Ward was the best true corner in the draft but i would've liked drafting Chubb more.

5. Broncos - DE Bradley Chubb / A+

Best player available and now can be paired with Von Miller to have potentially the best or one of the best pass rushing duos in the league.

6. Colts - G Quenton Nelson / A+

Best player available in a position of need for the Colts

7. Bills - QB Josh Allen / B-

This grade is mostly because I dont believe in Allen but it still was a positional need for the Bills.

8. Bears - LB Roquan Smith / A

Definetly a positional need for the Bears and Smith is a great football player. I personally thought LB Tremaine Edmunds was a better LB but drafting Smith is still a fantastic pick.

9. 49ers - OT Mike McGlinchey / B+

McGlinchey was the best tackle by far in this draft and is a great draft pick with the idea to give more protection to their new QB Jimmy Garoppolo. Great pick. I thought Minkah Fitzpatrick may have been a better choice here but McGlinchey is still a great pick.

10. Cardinals - QB Josh Rosen / A+

Rosen was the most "NFL ready" QB in this draft class. His personality does rub me the wrong way but this was a great pick for the Cardinals. I wouldn't be surprised if Rosen starts day 1 over current QB Sam Bradford.

11. Dolphins - DB Minkah Fitzpatrick / A+

Fitzpatrick was one of the prospects I thought it was less likely to bust vs everyone else. Great player from Alabama. By far the best player available here.

12. Buccaneers - DT Vita Vea / A

This big, athletic DT was a great pick for the Bucs here. In a division (NFC South) where the Bucs face all good QB's, addressing the pass rush was a must. They did just that with this pick.

13.  Redskins - DL Da'Ron Payne / A+

Like the Bucs, The Redskins play in a division (NFC East) where there are great QB's. Not only does this division have great QB's but great RB's as well. Great pick by the Redskins.

14. Saints - DE Marcus Davenport / B-

I'm not completely sold on Davenport. I believe he is still raw and could take him a couple years to reach his potential. This was still a great pick by the Saints. There weren't many great Defensive ends in this draft. The next DE drafted was at pick #52.

15. Raiders - T Kolton Miller / C

Kolton Miller? He is not a first round pick. I get it, the Raiders want to get more protection for Derek Carr. but their defense, especially in the secondary is the worst in the entire league. There was S Derwin James on the board, CB Josh Jackson on the board, CB Mike Hughes. You get the point, a lot of defensive backs worthy of a pick here in a position of need.

16. Bills - LB Tremaine Edmunds / A+

The Bills traded up again to the 16th spot to grab a great football player here. Edmunds was the best LB in the draft in my opinion and to draft him at 16 is extraordinary

17. Chargers - S Derwin James / A+

Another great player falls in the draft and the Chargers will gladly pick him up. Great pick. They are laughing at the Raiders here.

18. Packers - CB Jaire Alexander / B

CB was a position of need for the Packers but I felt there were a couple of corners better than Alexander.

19. Cowboys - LB Leighton Vander Esch / C+

Not a huge fan of this pick. Sure LB was a position of need but the Cowboys had more needs elsewhere.. i.e. receiver or in the secondary. But drafting a LB is fine but I would've preferred Rashaan Evans from Bama rather than Vander Esch who was only a 1 year starter at Boise St.

20. Lions - C/G Frank Ragnow / C+

There were better players on the board here. Will Hernandez was available and Billy Price. I also thought they could've drafted Calvin Ridley or a RB to give QB Stafford more weapons.

21. Bengals - C Billy Price/ A-

This was the best Center in my opinion and Center was definitely a position of need for the Bengals. They hope to get their running game going next season.

22. Titans - LB Rashaan Evans / A

Solid pick by the Titans. They had to move up to draft Evans here and I believe its a great pick. I wouldn't have been surprised if he went earlier in the draft, maybe to the Cowboys.

23. Patriots - OL Isaih Wynn / A

Wynn is a great linemen. Big guy from Univ. of Georgia who was a huge factor on their offense last year helping the Dawgs to produce one of the best running attack last season.

24. Panthers - WR DJ Moore / B+

First WR off the board going to the Panthers. Cam Newton is going to love this weapon. After this pick, future hall of famer and former Panther, Steve Smith gave high praise to Moore by saying the Panthers finally replaced him. I like Calvin Ridley a little bit more but Moore is still great.

25. Ravens - TE Hayden Hurst / B+

Ravens need more receiving weapons for QB Flacco. They could've gone with Calvin Ridley or a running back as well. But Hurst is an athletic pass catching Tight End.

26. Falcons -WR Calvin Ridley / B+

I wouldve liked to see the Falcons draft a defensive player here, especially on the DL. But they did need depth at WR. Ridley will produce day 1.

27. Seahawks - RB Rashaad Penny / D+

Out of all the running backs you pick Penny? The Hawks had a chance to get any running back they wanted. And the Hawks need offensive line help and Will Hernandez was on the board to. Not a great pick here by the Seahawks.

28. Steelers - S Terrell Edmunds / C+

A positional need for the Steelers but I feel that there were better options than Edmunds. For example S Justin Reid.

29. Jaguars - DT Taven Bryan / A-

Big fast athlete and a positional need for the Jaguars to help complete that defense and not only be able to defend against the pass but the run as well with this pick.

30. Vikings - CB Mike Hughes / B+

The Vikings already have 2 great corners on the team but in the NFC divisional round last year vs the Saints, the Saints were able to throw the ball well vs the Vikings. Still not a huge need at corner but with this pick the Vikings acquired some depth at corner.

31. Patriots - RB Sony Michel / A+

Great pick here by the Pats. The Pats needed a RB and Michel from Georgia is a fantastic pick up to fill the starting roll right away.

32. Ravens - QB Lamar Jackson / C+

I think the Ravens organization finally realize that Joe Flacco isn't going to get better and Jackson could replace him in a couple of years. I'm not sold on Jackson as a NFL QB but if he turns out to be the next Michael Vick, Then huge congrats to the Ravens.
